Individual, Adolescents Counsellor
Ryan (he/him) has over 10 years of experience as a counsellor and enjoys working with adolescents and adults. Believing strongly in evidence-based practice, Ryan strives to use and teach techniques which are backed by psychological research, and he hopes clients leave each session with new understandings and practical skills to use right away. Naturally caring and curious, he takes a gentle, collaborative, and open-minded approach to finding what style of therapy will work for each client.
Ryan earned his Master’s in Counselling Psychology from Athabasca University and his Bachelor’s in Sociology & Psychology from the University of Alberta. The therapy techniques he primarily uses include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), Positive Psychology, EMDR, and Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT). He is also trained in Biofeedback, a tool for assisting clients to learn control over physiological processes in their body related to stress and mental health.
Aside from mental health counselling, Ryan has also worked with adoptive families, with youth in care, with the LGBTQ+ community, and in vocational rehabilitation with injured workers. Outside of work, Ryan enjoys hiking in nature, reading philosophy & mythology, cooking Thai food, watching Studio Ghibli films, and hanging out with his dog.
