Alexandra Hajzer, M. Sc., RCC, CPT

Individual, Couples, Family Counsellor

Alexandra is a Registered Clinical Counsellor and a Certified Play Therapist. She has over twelve years of experience working with children and families. She has facilitated therapy for first responders with PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), RCMP officers, traumatized children, families struggling with attachment, grieving adults and children grasping with a variety of issues.

Her specialities in counselling include:

  • child therapy (starting at age 4),
  • childhood trauma,
  • grief and bereavement,
  • couples/marriage counselling,
  • depression and anxiety

Her areas of expertise also include parenting/family issues, sexual abuse, attachment issues, life and work stress, and life transitions.

She uses cognitive behavioural therapy, art therapy, play therapy, solution-focused therapy, Gottman couples therapy and Hakomi Somatic therapy, EMDR for children and adults.

She believes that play therapy is a powerful tool to address childhood trauma, behavioural challenges, attachment issues and other challenges. Children can have trouble expressing themselves through talk therapy; however, in a sand tray with toys or a paintbrush in their hands, they can access emotions, articulate fears and work out challenges.

Along these lines, she uses art therapy as an effective, creative approach for people of all ages to explore their challenges and understand themselves better through creating a visual image. She uses art therapy in individual counselling sessions, as a tool for self-exploration, communication, and healing.
