What is Critical Incident Stress Debriefing?

During CISD sessions, our facilitators guide participants through seven key steps. Firstly, we introduce CISD and assess the impact of the event on each individual. We then focus on identifying issues related to their sense of safety and provide an overview of the facts. In an open and safe environment, we encourage individuals to share their thoughts, emotions, reactions, and experiences of the event while providing validation throughout. We also explore potential future reactions, issues, and concerns while addressing symptoms and reviewing stress responses and adaptive coping strategies. Our sessions include educating participants on trauma reactions, providing explanations, and equipping them with information and resources for ongoing support. Finally, we offer closure by allowing individuals to ask final questions and explore further support options.

How can CISD help?

When utilized within 24 to 72 hours following an incident, CISD can offer valuable support. Our experienced facilitators provide a safe and non-judgmental space for individuals to process and cope with traumatic or stressful events, typically through group sessions that may occur more than once. However, Critical Incident Stress Debriefing does not receive recommendations for all situations and individuals.
