Val, a Registered Clinical Counsellor, works closely with individuals seeking support through challenging circumstances. Her approach is characterized by being client-focused, collaborative, and optimistic. Moreover, she recognizes each person as an individual within a family system. This enables her to address difficulties that impact clients on biological, psychological, social, and spiritual levels. Val firmly believes that the interpretation of our abilities and experiences plays a crucial role in working through life challenges with meaning. Therefore, her ultimate goal is to guide clients through their difficulties toward positive change.
Val’s areas of focus encompass trauma, PTSD, grief and loss, anxiety and depression, and relationships. Consequently, her personal experiences with difficult life events have deepened her capacity for empathy toward clients. This includes those who have undergone trauma, complicated grief, chronic illness, family issues, anxiety, depression, PTSD symptoms, and stroke recovery. In addition to her expertise, Val has received training in trauma, addictions, Emotion Focused Therapy, and Individual Psychology, and holds a certificate for the Gottman Method of Couples Therapy Level. She skillfully incorporates various therapeutic approaches, including somatic therapy and cognitive-behavioral therapy, tailoring interventions to suit each client’s unique needs.
Additionally, having spent most of her life in the lower mainland and Fraser Valley, Val cherishes the rich multi-cultural atmosphere of the region. Likewise, alongside her fulfilling marriage, Val takes pride in being a mother to a blended family of seven incredible adult children and four grandchildren. Family time holds immense value for her, and she also enjoys hiking, attending the symphony, and embarking on travels to Europe. Subsequently, Val’s aim is to empower clients to recognize their areas of strength and resourcefulness, equipping them with the necessary tools to cultivate positive change in their relationship with themselves and others.
