Mark is a Canadian Certified Counsellor and a Registered Clinical Counsellor in British Columbia. Mark earned his master’s degree from Portland State University. In particular, Mark’s counselling style draws on interpersonal neurobiology (IPNB), founded on clinical evidence supporting continuous brain growth. Moreover, he believes that positive changes can start by looking within ourselves. Consequently, Mark offers a non-judgmental and accepting space for you to discuss what’s present for you. Additionally, he approaches counselling holistically, recognizing the interconnectedness of body, mind, and spirit. Rather than labeling old patterns as pathologies, he acknowledges them as coping strategies. Subsequently, therapy with Mark provides a safe container to explore old patterns, experiment with new ones, heal past hurts, and grow in your relationship with yourself and others.
Accordingly, Mark appreciates the science of neuroplasticity, which suggests that the formation of new neurons and neurological links can continue throughout our lives. Specifically, he believes therapy can help rebuild and reconnect these links to achieve a healthier internal balance. Thus, this is done relationally between therapist and client in a supportive and collaborative manner.
Furthermore, Mark continually develops an understanding of how the intersections of race, class, gender and gender identity, sexual orientation, and ability shape each person’s experience in the world. He welcomes discussions on oppression and marginalization and invites a dialogue about differing identities.
Mark works through various theoretical orientations to accompany you within a safe relationship where you can explore your story and tell your narrative. Mark works closely with those with neurodiversity, grief, and much more. He is integrative and draws from evidence-based approaches such as Internal Family Systems, Interpersonal Neurobiology, Somatic, and mindfulness. Mark will meet you where you are to help you find hope for positive change, no matter the feelings or the story you bring.
