Helene San Pedro offers trauma-informed counselling and is a settler from the Philippines to Turtle Island, or Canada. She is a mother, helper, support for Filipino newcomers in Canada, an advocate and ally with Indigenous peoples and nations. Helene received her Ojibwe name Cedar Tree Woman. Her mother’s work with survivors of complex trauma and family violence in the Philippines inspired and led her in the helping profession in the social services field.
In Helene’s different roles over the last 16 years of working in social services, mental health and addictions, she has supported individuals and families impacted by substance (ab)use and co-occurring disorders in community, justice, child welfare, education and housing sectors. Providing Trauma-Informed Counselling, Helene embraces a strength-based, wrap-around, person-centered, trauma-informed approach in her practice. She received formal training from University of Manitoba, Manitoba Corrections, Justice Institute of British Columbia, and currently in her last stages of completing her Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology to become a licenced mental health and wellness therapist.
Helene is a dedicated psychotherapy professional who integrates experiential approaches into her therapeutic work. Her practice is deeply trauma- and violence-informed, ensuring that every client feels safe and understood. She is committed to gender and cultural inclusivity, recognizing and respecting the diverse identities of her clients.
In her person-centred and strength-based approach, Helene focuses on empowering clients to take control of their own healing journeys. She believes in fostering autonomy, helping individuals to recognize their own strengths and capabilities.
Helene envisions lifelong and experiential learning through personal and professional growth as key components of her practice. She continually seeks out new knowledge and experiences to enhance her skills and better serve her clients.
Helene is a passionate advocate for holistic health, emphasizing the importance of mindful movement in achieving overall well-being. She believes that integrating physical activity with mindfulness practices can significantly enhance both mental and physical health.
Together with her family, Helene leads an active lifestyle, engaging in a variety of sports and activities. From cycling and climbing to boxing and obstacle course racing, they embrace the thrill of high-adrenaline sports. Trail running, medicine picking, and nature soundbaths are also integral parts of their routine, allowing them to connect deeply with nature and their surroundings.
Through her work, Helene aims to inspire others to incorporate mindful movement into their daily lives, recognizing its profound impact on holistic health. She is always open to exploring new activities and believes in the power of movement to bring joy, resilience, and vitality to life. Through her work, Helene aims to create a supportive and nurturing environment where clients can thrive and achieve their wellness goals.
