Kassidy McMillan, Practicum Student

Intern - Abbotsford

Kassidy is a Clinical Psychology Practicum Student currently completing her training as part of her graduate studies in clinical psychology. She practices from an Adlerian and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) lens and is committed to fostering a safe, collaborative, and nonjudgmental space for clients to explore their challenges and strengths.

As a proud Métis woman, Kassidy values the importance of culture, identity, and community in the healing process. She brings this understanding into her work, offering a culturally sensitive approach that respects each client’s unique background and lived experience.

Her therapeutic work is grounded in the belief that people are capable of growth, change, and creating meaning in their lives. From an Adlerian perspective, she supports clients in exploring early life experiences, developing self-awareness, and cultivating a sense of purpose and belonging. Through CBT, she helps clients identify unhelpful thought patterns, build coping strategies, and work toward meaningful goals.

Kassidy is particularly passionate about trauma-informed care and recognizes the profound impact that trauma can have on individuals and families. She is also deeply interested in the role that the family system plays in the healing and development of children and adolescents, and works to support not only the individual, but the broader context in which they live and grow.

She understands that starting therapy can feel vulnerable and is dedicated to creating a space that is warm, welcoming, and supportive. As a practicum student, she is supervised by licensed clinicians and committed to ongoing learning and professional development.

She is passionate about supporting diverse communities and has a particular interest in working with individuals navigating identity, anxiety, self-esteem, life transitions, and family dynamics.

Cara-Lea Glass, Practicum Student

Intern - Abbotsford

Cara-Lea is a Registered Social Worker with over three years of experience supporting individuals and families impacted by addiction and substance use. Her practice is grounded in a strengths-based, client-centered approach that honors the resilience and inner resources each person carries, even in their most challenging moments.

She offers a compassionate and non-judgmental space. Clients can explore their experiences, identify meaningful goals, and develop tools to navigate change. Drawing on a range of evidence-based approaches—including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Emotion Focused Family Therapy, Cara-Lea provides support tailored to each client’s unique needs.

Her work is trauma-informed and rooted in the Power Threat Meaning Framework. Additionally, this allows for a deeper understanding of mental health beyond labels and diagnoses. Moreover, this perspective centers on how a person’s experiences and the meanings they have made from them, shape their current challenges and strengths.

Cara-Lea works collaboratively with clients to address concerns related to substance use, mental health, and life transitions. She is especially passionate about helping clients re-author their narratives, uncover new possibilities, and build a more empowered sense of self.

She believes healing and recovery are deeply personal journeys. Furthermore, she is committed to walking alongside each client with empathy, respect, and hope. Whether someone is seeking support for addiction, emotional well-being, or other personal challenges, Cara-Lea’s goal is to co-create a path toward meaningful change.

Nicky Darko

Abbotsford Clinic Manager

Nicky is our dedicated office manager at Coastal Clinical in our Abbotsford location. She combines her expertise in aesthetics with a passion for creating a soothing and serene environment that promotes healing and rejuvenation.

In addition to her aesthetics background, Nicky holds a diploma in Education Assistance, where she enhanced her skills and knowledge in special education, behaviour management, and communication strategies. Additionally, Nicky is working towards completing her health and life coach diploma.

With a deep appreciation for the beauty of nature, Nicky finds inspiration in the sun, the ocean, and all things natural. This passion allows her to infuse a sense of tranquility and positivity into the clinic. Therefore, individuals can find balance and achieve their goals through mental & health wellness. Nicky has over 10 years working in a spa environment. Because of this, she brings a wealth of knowledge and a keen eye for detail.

Nicky’s passion for health and wellness drives her to ensure that all employees, and clients have the support they need to embark on the continuous journey towards living healthier balanced lives.

As a mother of 3 beautiful boys, Nicky understands the importance of living a balanced life. This includes while also focusing on the discipline of self-care practices. With a combination of organizational skills, a passion for health and wellness, and a love for nature, Nicky strives to bring a unique and nurturing perspective to her role as an office manager.

Nathan Hayward

Community Relations Manager

Nathan is our Community Relations Manager and focuses on building better mental health accessibility in the community.. He is an Okanagan local born and raised. After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Counselling in 2016, Nathan has spent his vocational years working with charities, not-for-profits, and school districts in Kelowna, focusing on community development and fundraising. In his previous roles in the community, Nathan has seen the impact that a public-focused mental health service can have. Because of this, he is incredibly excited to be a part of the team at OCCS and make our counselling services known and accessible to all who need them.

Nathan can connect individuals, corporate teams and community organizations to help support everyone’s counselling needs. If you have any questions about connecting with our clinic for partnerships, referral systems, or other community relations-related questions, Nathan will be happy to meet with you. As one of the clinic managers, Nathan will also be happy to assist with any administrative questions or help with online bookings. Nathan can also assist with any technical issues clients may have on the website or Jane App.
