July 27, 2022Anxiety: Therapy Options
September 13, 2022Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a common condition that affects an individual’s behaviours. Generally, symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder are inattention, overactivity, and impulsivity. Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder can be experienced at all ages. Since ADHD can affect individuals at any age it can mean that individuals will experience a variety of different symptoms over the course of their life. There are three types of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, predominantly inattentive presentation, which can be defined by individuals experiencing challenges with being organized, paying attention to details, and following instructions and conversations (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, n.d.). Predominantly hyperactivity-impulsive presentation is defined by individuals experiencing fidgeting, being unable to sit for a long time, and experiencing impulsive behaviours (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, n.d.). Combined presentations are when there are a variety of symptoms being experienced from the previously listed two types of ADHD (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, n.d.).
ADHD can affect individuals throughout their lives. There are a variety of interventions available for those who are experiencing diagnosed ADHD or symptoms of ADHD. Attention deficit disorder is best treated with multimodalities. Medication, nutrition, exercise, therapy, supplements, vitamins, and practicing mindfulness are a variety of options that have been seen to be helpful for those who are experiencing attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, n.d.). If one is looking to explore therapy as an option to working through the symptoms they are experiencing, know that there are a variety of options available to you. Dialectical behavioural therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy and mindfulness-based cognitive behavioural therapy are all helpful options for those who are experiencing ADHD (The ADDitude, 2022). Every individual will have a variety of interventions that best suit them and provides them with the most effective outcomes in managing their symptoms of ADHD.
