How Journalling Can Support your Counselling Journey
August 4, 2025At OK Clinical Therapy Group, we recognize that there are many barriers that can make it difficult to begin counselling and we are committed to making mental health support more accessible in our community. One way we do this is by offering low-fee counselling services with Master of Counselling and Master of Social Work practicum students. Counselling with an intern counsellor starts at just $50/session, with sliding scale options to meet diverse financial needs. As a result, these low-fee services help remove barriers, ensuring more people can access the compassionate, high-quality care they deserve.
What is a Student Intern Counsellor?
Our student intern counsellors are graduate-level trainees completing their final clinical placements under the supervision of experienced, licensed counsellors. Practicum students bring fresh perspectives and have been trained in evidence-based approaches. Specifically, this includes cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and strengths-based frameworks.
Furthermore, research shows that practicum students are highly capable of supporting their clients and, on average, clients are just as likely to attend multiple sessions with a student intern counsellor as they are with a licensed counsellor. This demonstrates that students are able to foster meaningful therapeutic relationships and positive therapy outcomes during their practicum training.
Clinical Supervision
Each intern counsellor at OK Clinical is supported with professional clinical supervision. You may notice our practicum students’ counsellor bios say that they are under the mentorship of another counsellor. Our licensed counsellors offer mentorship and clinical supervision to our student counsellors to review their work, provide helpful feedback, and ensure that every client is receiving high-quality, ethical care. This partnership allows students to grow their skills while ensuring our clients are receiving thoughtful and evidence-based professional support.
Moreover, clinical supervision has been shown to enhance the effectiveness of student counsellors. In fact, studies show that supervision helps practicum students develop stronger counselling skills and better outcomes for clients.
Why Choose a Student Intern Counsellor?
If you’ve been considering therapy but have concerns about the cost, low-fee services with an intern counsellor may be an excellent fit. Additionally, our intern counsellors offer collaborative, client-centred care at affordable rates, allowing clients with financial concerns to attend therapy more consistently, which is the key to making progress. As a result, you can expect compassionate, supportive, and evidence-based counselling from our student interns with the knowledge that they are guided by the expertise and experience of a licensed counsellor through clinical supervision.
