December 29, 2025Ben Garrett is an authentic, grounded, and deeply compassionate counsellor who believes that people heal through connection, understanding, and genuine presence. He strives to create a space where clients feel seen, heard, and valued, where their experiences are honoured with respect and empathy.
Ben is a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) who holds both an MSc and a Doctorate in Psychotherapy and Counselling from the New School of Psychotherapy and Counselling in London, England. His training spans diverse approaches, but his work is especially rooted in existential therapy, a way of working with clients that explores meaning, freedom, and personal responsibility while helping clients navigate life’s challenges with greater clarity and self-awareness.
With over a decade of experience supporting individuals, youth, and families across British Columbia and the Canadian North, Ben brings a rich clinical background to his practice. He has worked as a Child and Youth Mental Health Clinician, a men’s counsellor and a clinical supervisor. He currently serves as the Director of Counselling and Training at the Chilliwack Youth Health Centre, where he supervises graduate practicum students and supports leading-practice models of clinical training.
Ben’s therapeutic perspective is holistic and integrative. He understands that meaningful change involves the mind, body, and lived experience, and he views emotional patterns not as failures, but as strategies people developed to cope and survive. His approach combines existential therapy with elements of cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), solution-focused work, motivational interviewing, somatic awareness, and attachment-based frameworks. He adapts each session to the needs of the individual, meeting clients exactly where they are.
Ben has extensive experience supporting clients with trauma, anxiety, depression, addictions, neurodiversity, anger, grief, and life transitions. He has also facilitated parenting programs, anger management groups, and psychoeducational workshops.
Ben is committed to providing an inclusive, affirming, and culturally aware space for all individuals. His work with diverse communities, including years supporting Inuit youth and families in Nunavut, continues to shape his understanding of resilience, identity, and the importance of culturally attuned care. He welcomes open conversations about oppression, belonging, and the social contexts that influence mental health.
At the heart of Ben’s work is a simple belief: people make sense, and healing grows when we explore our lives with honesty and compassion. Through collaborative exploration, he helps clients understand themselves more deeply, connect with their inner strengths, and move toward lives that feel more meaningful, balanced, and authentic.
