Maria holds a Master’s in counselling psychology (MACP) from Yorkville University and is a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC). Her background is in medicine with a bachelor’s degree in medicine and surgery (MBBS). This experience allowed her to work with the biomedical model and strengthened her belief in the biopsychosocial model.
Maria aligns with the humanistic and person-centered approach. She is empathic, and compassionate, views clients to be the experts of their lives, and aims to provide a safe and nonjudgmental space for clients. Moreover, she uses an eclectic approach and incorporates interventions from a range of modalities including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing, and solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT). She recognizes that each individual is unique and comes to counselling with their own lived experience and therefore strives to formulate treatment plans utilizing interventions that are tailored to meet individual client needs.
Moreover, as a Registered Clinical Counsellor, she is excited to be a part of the OK Clinical Therapy Group team and wishes to work in collaboration with her clients to support and empower them by providing them with the necessary skills.
