Rubina Dhaliwal, MSW, RSW

Rubina (Ruby) is a Registered Social Worker (RSW) with the BC Association of Social Workers. Ruby completed her Undergraduate Degree in Social Work from the University of the Fraser Valley in Abbotsford, BC, and obtained her Master’s in Counselling at City University, situated in the heart of downtown Vancouver. Further, she has been in the Social Work field for 10+ years and her focus has included working alongside children, youth, and families in diverse settings. Additionally, Ruby has extensive experience in mental health and crisis intervention and assessments, stabilizing crises, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness/relationship repair, supporting individuals through life transitions, and promoting self-care.

Furthermore, Ruby believes in an integrative approach and meeting her clients where they are at. Additionally, her approaches are based on the client and their unique needs and strengths. In a client-centered manner, Ruby focuses on what the client needs/wants right now and in the future. Best practice and evidence-based strategies are implemented to ensure the client receives the best care. Above all interventions, the counsellor-client connection and trust are imperative and are the foundation of the time spent together.

Some therapeutic interventions Ruby is trained in and/or incorporates into her practice include: Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness & CBT (MCBT), Trauma Informed, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), Play Therapy, Strength-Based and Client-Centred Therapy.
